The Garlic Grower's Pack

Everything you need to grow the perfect garlic crop. This pack includes both hardneck and softneck garlic types. Also included are row markers, specially formulated garlic fertiliser, The Garlic Farm Growing Guide and a hessian bag to carry it all to the allotment.

In this pack:

Solent Wight x 1 bulb: Allium Sativum (Softneck) - The original Isle of Wight garlic, particularly well suited to our UK climate. Our best garlic in terms of overall eating and keeping quality. Hard dense bulbs that exude a presence of their own. Long keeping – to April and beyond. Elegant bouquet that retains its flavour during cooking. Large, white bulbs that are easy to plait. Most attractive garlic plaited and hung in the kitchen. Robust flavours 7/ 1 0 on the 'Boswell Heat Scale'

Tuscany Wight x 1 bulb: Allium sativum (Softneck) - Originating in the rolling, fertile Tuscan countryside, this large white garlic is a late type like Venetian & Solent Wight. A Spring planted softneck with good keeping quality and most significant of all, big fat cloves all the way through the bulb. May prove in future to be the most popular garlic we sell. Hang in the kitchen for up to 8 months. Aromatic flavours 7/ 1 0 on the 'Boswell Heat Scale'

Provence Wight x 2 bulb: Allium sativum (Softneck) - A large white softneck garlic with purple streaks that can produce bulbs that approach Elephant Garlic size. Originating in the lush valleys of the Drôme in the north of Provence. Large fat cloves that suit vegetable & fish dishes of the Mediterranean. Like many Mediterranean types, responds to heavy watering in the 3 months before harvest. Spring planting is possible although will produce smaller bulbs. Sweet and substantial can keep up to January. Warm subtle flavours superb in Aioli.

Iberian Wight x 1 bulb: Allium Sativum (Softneck) - Large fat white garlic with purple stripes, origin in south west Spain. Purple when grown close to surface. Excellent all round garlic with large cloves..

Red Duke Wight x 1 bulb: Allium Sativum ophioscorodon (Hardneck) - The last stronghold of rare exotic hardnecks with fierce and spicy flavours is in Eastern Europe. Hotter and stronger than any of the commonly planted garlic in the UK.

Elephant Garlic x 12 cloves: Allium ampeloprasum: A fun member of the allium family, Elephant garlic can grow, with adequate water, to 150mm across and weigh over a kilo. Occurring in the wild in parts of Western Europe and in the UK along the Cornish coast. Roast it and impress your friends. It has a warm mild garlic flavour but is increasingly popular with those who like to make a statement in their cooking.

  • Growers Tips

The basics: Plant your garlic in an area which will receive maximum sunlight hours. Place the cloves 3 – 4cm below the surface, root down (pointy end up) 6 inches apart. Water your garlic during dry periods, stopping watering completely during the last few weeks. Harvest when the lower leaves start to yellow and fold. Mid May – mid August depending on variety and location.
