Garlic Farm Assured

Whether it's one of our 15 or so varieties of garlic that we grow here on the farm, or one of the specialist varieties from one of our partners in the UK or overseas, we want you to be sure that you're getting the best bulbs - that's why we've introduced the Garlic Farm Assured seal of approval.

Every bulb of garlic that passes through our farm on its way to markets, farm shops or direct to your kitchen is assessed according to our own exacting standards and if it doesn't match up then it's heading for puree!

Every year we grow our own garlic here on the Isle of Wight. However as garlic is a seasonal product, we ensure that we are able to supply superior quality garlic all year round, so we work with partner garlic growers in the UK, France and Spain. As well as making sure that any grower we partner up with is growing responsibly, the bulbs are rated according to the following:

Size

While maximum points go to the biggest and most impressive bulbs, size isn't everything! Take Caulk Wight for example - small but perfectly formed and packing quite a punch!

Colour

White, purple or pink, our garlic has to have a strong and healthy glow and while staining is sometimes inevitable, we need to make sure it doesn't signal problems with mould.

Flavour

Probably the most important of the criteria and while it's all subjective, any garlic lover will be able to tell a good one from a bad one and we're here so that you only get the good ones.

Longevity

For some people a bulb can last a long time (obviously not for us) so it's important that it can stand up to the heat in a modern kitchen. It depends a lot on the variety, but we'll be sure to let you know how long you can keep your garlic before it's past it's best.
